 32. Will Moving Help My CF

Will Moving Someplace Else Help My CF?

Someone asked whether were you live has any correlation to your health CF-wise. In the late sixties, doctors were sending their patients with CF to locations such has Arizona (dry, warm climate) or Florida with the belief that the environment in these locations would be beneficial to health. Dr. Harry Shwachman of Boston's Children's Hospital did a study to see if environment did indeed affect the health of those with CF. The result of the study was that there was no environmental effect upon those with CF.

When it comes to environment, I'm sure that other factors, apart from CF, need to be taken into consideration. For instance, I have traveled to both Arizona and Florida and found the drier clime of Arizona more to my personal liking. I had difficulty producing sputum in the wetter climate common to Florida. I live in Massachusetts and find that my lungs react badly during pollen season (an allergy). Apart from CF, we are all a combination of allergies, asthma components and other symptoms. A locale which may be of benefit to one will not benefit another.
